WP6 Evaluation

"On the 22nd of October, Koen Salemink (University of Groningen) presented in a seminar series of the University of Lincoln. In his presentation, titled 'Digital Margins: Rural Areas and Vulnerable People in the Digital Age', he presented insights and preliminary conclusions of his PhD project so far.

Researchers at Lincoln were especially interested in the insights of ITRACT. The University of Lincoln and Lincolnshire County Council are currently running the ERDF-project Onlincolnshire, which is aimed at improving digital connectivity and ICT usage by small and medium sized businesses. The universities from Groningen and Lincoln have decided to continue to work together on this Digital Agenda related material throughout 2015.

Koen Salemink's position at the University of Groningen, Faculty of Spatial Sciences, is funded by ITRACT. In WP6 he evaluates the impacts of the pilots on regional development, together with prof. dr. Dirk Strijker of the Mansholt Chair for Rural Development.»

Dirk Strijker (University of Groningen) addresses problems with rural broadband on 'Nieuwsuur'

On July 11th 2013, professor Dirk Strijker was interviewed by 'Nieuwsuur' (the Dutch ten o'clock news and debate show) on the poor quality of broadband internet in rural areas. Recent research by Koen Salemink (RUG-FRW) and Dirk Strijker (RUG-FRW) showed that 45% of people living in Dutch rural areas are underserved by Internet providers. In total,  over half a million people in the Netherlands are deprived of up to date broadband internet.
